Dréan is a small coastal town located in Algeria's El Taref Province, situated approximately 25 km south of Annaba. It serves as the capital of the Dréan District and had a recorded population of 37,686 according to the 2008 census.
The town was established by French settlers in 1848 under the name Mondovi. It retained this name until 1962, when Algeria declared independence and most of the French residents departed. The location is notably the birthplace of the author Albert Camus, who was born there in 1913 during the period of French rule.
