Tiaret, also known as Tahert, is a major city located in northwestern Algeria. It serves as the namesake for the wider farming region of Tiaret Province. The city and its surrounding region are situated in the western Hautes Plaines within the Tell Atlas mountain range.
Geographically, the area lies southwest of the capital city of Algiers and is positioned approximately 150 km (93 mi) from the Mediterranean coast. The city is served by the Abdelhafid Boussouf Bou Chekif Airport.
