Switzerland, officially known as the Swiss Confederation, is a landlocked country located in Central, Western, and Southern Europe. It shares borders with Germany to the north, France to the west, Austria and Liechtenstein to the east, and Italy to the south.

The nation's geography is divided into three primary regions: the Swiss Alps, the Swiss Plateau, and the Jura Mountains. While the Alps cover the majority of the country's territory, the population of approximately 9 million people is primarily concentrated on the plateau. This region serves as the hub for many of the country's largest economic centers and cities, including Zurich, Geneva, Basel, Bern, Lausanne, Winterthur, and Lucerne.
