San Juan de la Maguana is a city and municipality located in the western region of the Dominican Republic. It serves as the capital of the San Juan province.
Established in 1503, it was one of the first cities founded on the island. The city was named by San Juan Bautista, combining his name with "Maguana," which is the Taíno name for the valley. In the Taíno language, Maguana translates to "the first stone" or "the unique stone."
