Puerto Plata, officially known as San Felipe de Puerto Plata, is a major coastal city located in the Dominican Republic. It serves as the capital of the Puerto Plata Province and functions as a significant trading port and tourism hub for the region.
The city features extensive tourism infrastructure, including approximately 100,000 hotel beds and popular resorts such as Playa Dorada and Costa Dorada situated to the east of the city proper. A notable landmark is the first aerial tramway in the Caribbean, which transports visitors to the Pico Isabel de Torres, a mountain reaching an elevation of 793 meters (2,600 feet) within the city limits.
