Punta Cana is a resort town located in the easternmost region of the Dominican Republic within the La Altagracia Province. It was politically incorporated as the Verón–Punta Cana Touristic Municipal District in 2006 and remains subject to the municipality of Higüey.
As of the 2022 census, the district has a population of 138,919 inhabitants. The area is primarily recognized as a major tourism destination within the country.
