Aabenraa is a town located in Southern Denmark at the head of the Aabenraa Fjord, which serves as an arm of the Little Belt. It is situated approximately 26 kilometres north of the Denmark–Germany border and 32 kilometres north of the German town of Flensburg.
The town serves as the seat of the Aabenraa Municipality and currently has a population of 16,468. Historically, it was the seat of Sønderjyllands Amt until January 1, 2007, when the Region of Southern Denmark was established as part of the Danish Municipal Reform.
