Hillerød is a Danish town located in the center of North Zealand, approximately 30 km northwest of Copenhagen. It has a population of 36,873 and serves as the administrative center for Hillerød Municipality.
The town also functions as the administrative seat of Region Hovedstaden, which is one of Denmark's five regions. It is most notably recognized for Frederiksborg Castle, a large Renaissance castle that currently houses the Museum of National History.
Hillerød is situated between two former royal forests: Gribskov to the north and Store Dyrehave to the south.
