Balbala

Djibouti

Balbala is a southern suburb of Djibouti City located in the country of Djibouti. It is situated to the west of the Ambouli River. The name of the area is derived from the "flashing" produced by a nearby lighthouse.

The suburb began to form in 1966 following restrictions placed on access to the city. Originally established as a shanty town, it has since developed into an established residential suburb equipped with essential infrastructure, including schools and a hospital. As of 2024, the population of Balbala is estimated at approximately 554,350.
