Niederschoenhausen

Germany

Niederschönhausen is a locality situated within the borough of Pankow in Berlin, Germany. To distinguish it from Hohenschönhausen in the district of Berlin-Lichtenberg, it is frequently referred to as Pankow-Schönhausen.

The area is historically significant for its role during the Cold War era. From 1949 until 1960, the Schönhausen Palace and the neighboring Majakowskiring quarter served as the residence for several members of the East German government. During this period, West German media commonly referred to the area as Pankow.
