Weimar is a city located in the German state of Thuringia in Central Germany. It is situated between the cities of Erfurt to the west and Jena to the east, approximately 80 km southwest of Leipzig, 170 km north of Nuremberg, and 170 km west of Dresden.
The city serves as part of the central metropolitan area of Thuringia along with Erfurt and Jena, a region with a combined population of about 500,000.
