Schmiedehausen is a municipality located in the Weimarer Land district of Thuringia, Germany. It is situated in the extreme northeastern corner of the Saale-Ilm-limestone slab and can be reached by road via the nearby locations of Camburg and Bad Sulza.

The area surrounding Schmiedehausen is primarily developed for agricultural purposes. The local geography is characterized by the wooded hills of the Ilm valley, which begin at Bergsulza.
