Gotha is a city located in the state of Thuringia, Germany. It serves as the capital of the district of Gotha and is situated approximately 20 kilometres west of Erfurt and 25 kilometres east of Eisenach. The city has a population of 44,000 residents.
Historically, Gotha served as a residence for the Ernestine Wettins from 1640 until the end of the German monarchy in 1918. It is also noted as the origin of the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, which produced numerous European rulers, including members of the royal houses of the United Kingdom, Belgium, Portugal, and Bulgaria.
