Blankenstein is a village and former municipality located in the district of Saale-Orla-Kreis within the state of Thuringia, Germany. It served as the administrative seat of the Saale-Rennsteig Verwaltungsgemeinschaft until that entity was disbanded during a regional reorganization.
On January 1, 2019, Blankenstein officially became part of the new municipality of Rosenthal am Rennsteig. The village is situated in a region characterized by its historical administrative structures and rural landscape.
