Altkirchen is a village located in the district of Altenburger Land within the state of Thuringia, Germany. It historically functioned as an independent municipality before undergoing administrative changes to its governance.
As of January 1, 2019, Altkirchen ceased to be an independent entity and became part of the town of Schmölln. It remains a recognized locality within this larger municipal structure in the Thuringian region.
