Quedlinburg is a town located in the district of Harz in western Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, situated just north of the Harz mountains. During the early Middle Ages, it served as an influential and prosperous trading center, gaining significant prominence under the Ottonian dynasty during the 10th and 11th centuries.
The town is notable for its exceptional preservation of Romanesque architecture. Its castle, church, and old town—which contains approximately 2,100 timber houses dating back to the period of Ottonian influence—were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1994.
