Dessau is a district located within the independent city of Dessau-Roßlau in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt. It is situated at the confluence of the Mulde and Elbe rivers.
Until July 1, 2007, Dessau functioned as an independent city. The current population of the district is 67,747.
