Bautzen, also known as Budyšin or historically Budissin, is a town located in eastern Saxony, Germany. It serves as the administrative center of the district of Bautzen, which is the largest district in the state of Saxony. The city is situated on the Spree river and ranks as the eighth most populous town in the region.
The town lies within the bilingual Sorbian settlement area of Lusatia. It is recognized as the third-largest town in Lusatia, following Cottbus and Görlitz, and stands as the second-largest town in Upper Lusatia.
