Schwerin is a city located in northeastern Germany. It serves as the capital and second-largest city of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, as well as the capital of the region of Mecklenburg.

The city has a population of approximately 96,000 inhabitants. Due to its size, it is noted as the least populous of all German state capitals, ranking behind Rostock in terms of regional population.
