Eisenhüttenstadt is a town located in the Oder-Spree district of Brandenburg, Germany. It is situated at the confluence of the River Oder and the Oder–Spree Canal on the border with Poland.
The city was established as a planned socialist model city by East Germany in 1950 to serve as a state-owned steel mill complex. Between 1953 and 1961, it was known as Stalinstadt in honor of Soviet leader Joseph Stalin; the town received its current name during the subsequent de-Stalinization campaign.
