Rumpel is a traditional card game native to the Danube region, spanning the area between Regensburg and Linz. While it originates in this broader geographic corridor, it is played most notably in the region of Hauzenberg within the German county of Passau in Bavaria.
The game is a descendant of Quodlibet, an old Austrian student's game. One specific variation known as Großer Rumpel involves selecting 8 or 12 contracts from a menu of 29 different options.
