Germany

Lindau is a major town and island situated on the eastern side of Lake Constance in Bavaria, Germany. It serves as the capital of the county (Landkreis) of Lindau and is located in close proximity to the borders of the Austrian state of Vorarlberg and the Swiss cantons of St. Gallen and Thurgau.

The historic town is situated on an island of approximately 0.68 square kilometres, which connects to the mainland via a road bridge and a railway causeway leading to the local station. The town's coat of arms features a linden tree, which refers to the supposed origin of its name.
