Elmshorn is a town located in the district of Pinneberg within the German state of Schleswig-Holstein. Situated approximately 30 km north of Hamburg, the town lies along the Krückau, which is a tributary of the Elbe river.
With a population of about 50,000 inhabitants, Elmshorn ranks as the sixth-largest town in Schleswig-Holstein. The town is notable as the birthplace of several prominent figures, including the mathematician Hermann Weyl, the writer and editor Hermann Schlüter, and the medievalist Heinz Woehlk.
