Palau, officially known as the Republic of Palau, is an island country situated in the Micronesia subregion of Oceania within the western Pacific Ocean. It consists of approximately 340 islands and occupies the western portion of the Caroline Islands.
The geography of the region is divided such that while the western part constitutes the Republic of Palau, the eastern and central parts make up the Federated States of Micronesia.
