Wadern is a municipality located in the federal state of Saarland in southwestern Germany. It serves as a significant administrative division within the district of Merzig-Wadern and is situated within the Moselle Franconian language area.

The municipality covers an area of 111 km2, making it the third largest municipality in Saarland after Saarbrücken and St. Wendel. It has a population of approximately 16,000 inhabitants and is characterized by a sparse population density of 143 inhabitants per km2. The town is composed of 14 urban districts and 24 villages.
