Merzig is a town located in the state of Saarland in Germany. It serves as the capital of the district of Merzig-Wadern, which encompasses 17 municipalities covering an area of 108 km² and has a population of approximately 30,000 inhabitants.
The town is situated on the river Saar. Geographically, it is positioned about 35 km south of Trier and 35 km northwest of Saarbrücken.
