Trier is a city located in western Germany on the banks of the Moselle River. It is situated in a valley surrounded by low hills covered in vines and red sandstone, positioned within the Moselle wine region near the border with Luxembourg.
The city is located in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Historically, it has been known by the English names Trèves and Triers.
