Vreden is a small town situated in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is located near the Dutch border and in the vicinity of the river Berkel.
The historical records for Vreden date back to at least 839, which marks the first proven mention of the settlement. The town officially obtained its city rights in 1252.
