Sankt Augustin is a town located in the Rhein-Sieg district of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Situated approximately 8 km northeast of Bonn and 8 km southwest of Siegburg, it serves as a significant population center with over 59,000 inhabitants, making it the second-largest town in its district. The municipality belongs to both the Bonn/Rhein-Sieg economic region and the scientific region of Bonn.
The town is named after Saint Augustine of Hippo (354–430), who is the patron saint of the Steyler missionaries. These missionaries established the Saint Augustine Monastery near the current town center in 1913. While the municipality was officially established in 1969, it was granted town privileges on September 6, 1977.
