Paderborn is a city located in eastern North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It serves as the capital of the Paderborn district.
The name of the city originates from the river Pader and the old German term "Born," which refers to the source of a river. The river Pader itself originates from more than 200 springs situated near the Paderborn Cathedral, which is also the burial site of St. Liborius.
