Neuss is a city located in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is situated on the west bank of the Rhine river, directly opposite the city of Düsseldorf. Neuss serves as the largest city within the Rhein-Kreis Neuss district.
The city is primarily recognized for its historic Roman sites and its annual tradition known as the Neusser Bürger-Schützenfest. Neuss holds the title of "Germany's oldest city," a distinction it shares with Trier. In 1984, the city celebrated the 2000th anniversary of its founding, which dates back to 16 BCE.
