Detmold is a city located in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It currently serves as the administrative center for both the district of Lippe and the Regierungsbezirk Detmold. The city has a population of 74,278.
Historically, Detmold served as the capital of the Principality of Lippe from 1468 until 1918, and subsequently functioned as the capital of the Free State of Lippe until 1947. It remains a significant religious hub, housing the central administration of the Church of Lippe. Additionally, the Reformed Redeemer Church serves as the preaching venue for the state superintendent of the Lippe church.
