Wiesmoor is a town located in the district of Aurich in northwest Lower Saxony, Germany. It sits along the Nordgeorgsfehnkanal and holds the distinction of being the youngest town in the East Frisia area, having been officially bestowed with town rights on March 16, 2006.
The town's growth was primarily driven by the industrialization of peat harvesting from the surrounding moors. In modern times, tourism is a significant part of the local economy, and the town holds the official title of Luftkurort. Wiesmoor is also known as the "Flower City" due to the large volume of flowers produced in its industrial greenhouses, which were historically heated by waste heat from a now-defunct peat burning power station.
