Meppen is a town located in the state of Lower Saxony, Germany. It serves as the administrative seat of the Emsland district. The city is situated at the geographical confluence of several waterways, specifically the Ems, Hase, and Nordradde rivers, as well as the Dortmund–Ems Canal (DEK).

The name of the town originates from the word "Mappe," which translates to "delta." This etymology reflects its position at the meeting point of these significant regional water bodies.
