Jever is a city located in Germany and serves as the capital of the district of Friesland in the state of Lower Saxony. It was officially granted city status in 1536. The local inhabitants are known as Jeveraner, or "Jeverans."
The city is well-known as a popular holiday resort and is frequently associated with the production of Jever Pilsener, a major brand of beer. Historically, the city is sometimes referred to unofficially as Marienstadt, a name referencing Maria of Jever, who was its last independent ruler.
