Algermissen is a village and municipality located in the district of Hildesheim within the state of Lower Saxony, Germany. It is situated approximately 12 km north of Hildesheim and 20 km southeast of Hanover.
The town's name originates from a prominent German family who resided in the area until the Revolutions of 1848. Following the suppression of the revolution, members of the Algermissen family—who were part of the revolutionary party—were driven from Germany. While some family members relocated to Missouri in the United States, the municipality retained its original name.
