Alfeld

Alfeld (Leine) is a town located in the state of Lower Saxony, Germany. It is situated on the Leine river and lies approximately 20 km southwest of Hildesheim. The town serves as the second largest city within the district of Hildesheim in southern Lower Saxony.

The municipality is part of the Metropolitan region Hannover-Braunschweig-Göttingen-Wolfsburg and belongs to the Leinebergland region. It is also a designated location on the German Timber-Frame Road. In 2011, Alfeld became a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to the presence of the Fagus Factory.
