Bad Arolsen is a small town located in the northern Hesse region of Germany, within the Waldeck-Frankenberg district. It holds historical significance as a former seat of government for the region.
From 1655 until 1918, the town served as the residence town for the Princes of Waldeck-Pyrmont. Following this period, it functioned as the capital of the Waldeck Free State until 1929. Today, the town is notably home to the headquarters of the International Tracing Service.
