A valley is an elongated low area that typically runs between hills or mountains. These geographical features generally contain a river or stream flowing from one end to the other.
Most valleys are formed over very long periods through the erosion of the land surface by rivers or streams. Alternatively, some valleys are created by erosion caused by glacial ice, which may remain present in high mountains or polar regions.
