Gauting is a municipality located in the district of Starnberg within the state of Bavaria, Germany. It serves as a residential community with a population exceeding 20,000 inhabitants.
The town is situated on the river Würm and lies approximately 17 kilometres (11 mi) southwest of Munich. Due to its proximity to the regional center, Gauting is considered an integral part of the Munich metropolitan area.
