Freiburg im Breisgau, commonly referred to as Freiburg, is a city located in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. It ranks as the fourth-largest city in the state, following Stuttgart, Mannheim, and Karlsruhe.
The built-up area of the city had a population of approximately 355,000 as of 2021. The broader Freiburg metropolitan area, known as the Einzugsgebiet, recorded a population of about 660,000 in 2018.
