Eggenstein-Leopoldshafen is a municipality located in the federal state of Baden-Württemberg in the Federal Republic of Germany. It has a population of almost 17,000 inhabitants and is situated approximately 12 km north of the city of Karlsruhe.
The municipality is characterized by its geographical position bordering the Rhine River to the west and its connection to the Bundesstraße 36 to the east. It serves as the site for the northern campus of the research centre Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, which includes the former Forschungsreaktor 2.
