Flying Fish Cove

Christmas Island

Flying Fish Cove is the capital city and primary settlement of Christmas Island. While it is frequently identified as the main hub of the territory, many maps simply refer to the location by the name "The Settlement."

Established in 1888, Flying Fish Cove holds the distinction of being the first British settlement on the island. The area was originally named in honor of the British survey-ship Flying Fish.
