Bolivia, officially known as the Plurinational State of Bolivia, is a landlocked country situated in central South America. It shares borders with Brazil to the north and east, Paraguay to the southeast, Argentina to the south, Chile to the southwest, and Peru to the west.
The nation's geography is characterized by diverse environments, including an Andean region to the west and tropical lowlands to the east and north. Notable features include the high-altitude Altiplano plateau, snow-capped peaks, temperate valleys, the Gran Chaco, and part of the Pantanal, which is the world's largest tropical wetland. The country also encompasses portions of the Amazonian plain.
Bolivia maintains two distinct seats of government: La Paz serves as the seat of the executive, legislative, and electoral branches, while Sucre is the constitutional capital and seat of the judiciary. While many urban centers are located in the Andean region, Santa Cruz de la Sierra serves as the largest city and principal industrial center within the eastern tropical lowlands.
