Florida is a state located in the Southeastern and South Atlantic regions of the United States. It occupies a peninsula between the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean, bordering Alabama to the northwest, Georgia to the north, the Straits of Florida to the south, and The Bahamas to the southeast.

The state features the longest coastline in the contiguous United States, spanning approximately 1,350 miles. It is the only U.S. state that borders both the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. Covering an area of 65,758 square miles, Florida ranks 22nd in area among the states.

With a population exceeding 23 million, Florida is the third-most populous state in the United States. The Miami metropolitan area serves as the state's largest metropolitan region, while Jacksonville is identified as its most populous city. Other significant population centers include Tallahassee, the state capital, as well as Orlando and Tampa Bay.
