Vedado is a central business district and urban neighborhood located within the city of Havana, Cuba. It is situated in the municipality of Plaza de la Revolución and is bordered by Calzada de Infanta and Central Havana to the east, the Alemendares River and the Miramar / Playa district to the west, and the waterfront seawall known as the Malecón to the north.
Developed primarily during the Republic period in the first half of the 20th century, Vedado is considered a more modern part of Havana compared to the areas located to its east. The area popularly referred to as Vedado encompasses the wards of Vedado, Rampa, Vedado-Malecón, and Carmelo. It is characterized by Calle 23, also known as "La Rampa," which serves as the main street running east to west through the district.
The neighborhood has been described as one of the city's most affluent sections. Its northern boundary along the Malecón remains a prominent and popular location for social gatherings throughout the city.
