Muzo is a town and municipality located in the Western Boyacá Province within the department of Boyacá, Colombia. The urban center sits at an altitude of 815 metres (2,674 ft) above sea level. It is situated approximately 178 kilometres (111 mi) from Tunja, the departmental capital, and 118 kilometres (73 mi) from Chiquinquirá, the capital of the Western Boyacá Province.
The municipality is widely recognized as the world capital of emeralds due to its mines, which contain some of the highest quality gems of this type globally. Muzo shares borders with Otanche and San Pablo de Borbur to the north, Maripí and Coper to the east, Quípama to the west, and the department of Cundinamarca to the south.
