Funza is a municipality and town located in the Western Savanna Province of the Cundinamarca department in Colombia. Situated on the Bogotá savanna within the southwestern part of the Altiplano Cundiboyacense, the urban center sits at an altitude of 2,548 metres (8,360 ft). The town is a constituent part of the Metropolitan Area of Bogotá and shares borders with Madrid, Tenjo, Mosquera, Cota, and the locality of Engativá.
The area is notable for containing the La Florida wetland, which is a remnant of the Pleistocene Lake Humboldt. Historically, Funza served as the site of Bacatá, the former main settlement of the Muisca Confederation. The modern town was established by Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada on April 20, 1537, during the Spanish conquest of the Muisca people.
