Zarzal is a city and municipality located in the northern region of the Valle del Cauca department in Colombia. The municipality currently has a population of approximately 42,000 residents.
The local economy is primarily driven by the extensive cultivation of sugar cane, as well as small and medium enterprises within the metallurgic sector and utilities. Commerce plays a significant role in the city's economic structure due to a high concentration of warehouses for basic necessity goods and a marketplace that serves as a regional reference point for nearby cities.
Urban development in Zarzal has led to the construction of new city districts in the center, resulting in a scarcity of available bare land within the city limits.
