Padua is a city and comune located in the Veneto region of northern Italy. It serves as the capital of the province of Padua and is situated on the banks of the river Bacchiglione. The city is positioned approximately 40 kilometres west of Venice and 29 km southeast of Vicenza.
As of 2025, Padua has a population of 207,694, making it the third-largest city in the Veneto region. It functions as the primary economic and communications hub for the area. The city is also frequently included in the Padua–Treviso–Venice metropolitan area (PATREVE), which has an estimated population of around 2,600,000.
